Doonbeg Golf Course
Doonbeg Golf Course
Heading north along the Wild Atlantic Way and just across the estuary from Ballybunion is a spectacular expanse of sand dunes known as Doonbeg. This incredibly lush 400 acres of links golf terrain is on quite a lot of bucket lists. When Greg Norman was presented with the opportunity to design a golf course amongst this unspoilt expanse of dunes it must have jumped at the invention. Doonbeg's untouched undulating dunes and coastal location must have been the stuff links golf course architects dream of. Doonbeg is home to some of the finest golf holes in Ireland and you will gain an understanding of this long before you step onto the first tee. Enhanced by the breathtaking backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean this golf course provides some stunning coastal holes, a couple of intricate ones amongst the dunes, and an interesting assortment of par threes. The course has recently undergone a partial redesign utilising the architectural expertise of Dr Martin Hawtree leveraging his vast knowledge of links golf courses. Trump Doonbeg with it's incredible sand dunes and stunning seaside location will ensure all those who play it a tremendous golfing experience. The golf course is easily accessed from Ballybunion by taking a short 20 minute ferry journey across the River Shannon.
