2020 Events in Ballybunion

This summer Ballybunion is offering a wide variety of events for all ages. This year is action packed with a combination of beach based activities including the Wild Atlantic Way sand art event along with the ever expanding MOYA festival.

MOYA festival brings some well deserved wellness through its many yoga practitioners, motivational speakers & meditation experts offering their services over the May bank holiday weekend.

Wild Atlantic Way sand art festival is the first of its kind in Ireland. Throughout this week long event, teams of sand artists from around the world work incredibly hard to showcase their amazing talents. Ballybunion, with its amazingly long stretches of high cliffs is the ideal location to hold such an event.

This year's Ballybunion Beach Races are shaping up to be the most exciting ever with incredibly intense competition building between jockeys from all over Ireland. They will be putting on a spectacle as they race across the beach with the Atlantic Ocean in the background.

Speaking of the Atlantic Ocean, Ballybunion offers amazing waves for beginners and intermediates while all the Atlantic cliff break provides exhilarating surf for the seriously advanced. Why not enroll the kids into one of the many surf camps happening over the summer or why not rent a board and hit the waves yourself.

Ballybunion surf schools aim is to not only teach kids & adults how to surf but also to promote awareness and provide a clear understanding of water safety. So why not call down and experience the thrill of that first wave in a safe and encouraging surroundings.

Volleyball teams from all over Ireland, with many players originally from further afield, will descend on Ballybunion in August to battle it out when the Beach Volleyball Ireland Tour comes to town. This two-day tournament takes place on Ladies’ Beach. This volleyball tournament promises plenty of action and excitement so come along and see it for yourself.

Ballybunion community market takes place on Sundays and showcases some of the towns talented local artists, craft makers & artisan food producers. It doesn’t end there, as thanks to the hard work of the organizers word has quickly spread about this community based market and artists and food makers from all over Kerry descend on the town of Ballybunion to provide both locals and visitors alike with the finest of organic produce.

Feel free to delight in an amazing murmuration of starlings along the cliff walk as the sun sets. A murmuration of starlings is a remarkable sight. Thousands of birds moving in unison in the sky above Ballybunion. Early evening just before dusk, they gather on rooftops and telephone wires before they take off, flying into the sunset. The Nine Daughters Hole on the cliff walk is their resting place, as this natural blowhole provides them with a safe location to nest. Spotting a starling murmuration and their amazing displays is an amazing addition to your time in Ballybunion.
